Prien is situated in between Munich and Salzburg. Lake Chiemsee is the largest lake in Bavaria and home to the idyllic islands of “Frauenchiemsee” and “Herrenchiemsee”. The islands are serviced with regular ferry crossings direct from Prien throughout the year and are a must see for every visitor.

The Island of “Herrenchiemsee” is home to “Castle Herrenchiemsee”, the most expensive castle that King Ludwig II built and based upon Versailles. Enjoy a tour of the castle’s 19 rooms, rich in splendour and then visit the castle museum, which displays fantastic historical articles and offers an insight into the castle’s fascinating history.
Only a short boat-trip away is the Island of “Frauenchiemsee” which is the most romantic and picturesque island imaginable. It has a local population of ca. 200 people made up of artists, craftspeople and fishermen as well as a fully operational Benedictine Abbey.
