The museums"Schloßmuseum" and "Münterhaus" are gems of expressionist art. The Schloßmuseum displays the worldwide largest, permanent exhibition of paintings by Münter and a collection of the "Blue Rider" artwork. Kandinsky and Münter lived from 1909 to 1914 in a small villa. In the so called Russians House" (Münterhaus) the revolutionary development of non-representational painting took place, nowadays this memorial site attracts visitors from all over the world. The colorful historic houses in the center of Murnau form the special setting of the pedestrian mall where you forget the noise and the frantic pace of everyday life. Unspoilt nature can be found at lake Staffelsee and in the nature reserve of the "Murnauer Moos". The seven islands of the lake Staffelsee can be surrounded on the passenger ship "MS Seehausen".
